CHAMBER ANNOUNCES SMALL BUSINESS OF THE YEAR

Cork Restaurant and Corcoran Communications, owned by Ruth Corcoran, will receive the Small Business of the Year Award at the Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Commerce’s 127th Annual Dinner Meeting on November 15, 2011.  Commenting on the award, Chamber of Commerce Chairman David Payne of PNC Capital Markets, states, “Ruth is one of those rare people that not only runs one successful small business – but two!  Not only is Cork a wonderful restaurant, but it serves  as host facility for many special events that benefit nonprofits throughout the area.  Ruth’s creative approaches to these events, and to all of the clients she serves through Corcoran Communications, are outstanding.  She has that combination of professional excellence and commitment to community that we look for in this award.”

Cork Hosts Free Lunch for Flood Victims

Flood Victims in the Brookside section of Wilkes-Barre were treated to a complimentary Saturday afternoon lunch on September 17 at Cork. We were happy to serve a hot lunch to more than 100 guests!

Cork Bar & Restaurant Donates $2,300 to SPCA of Luzerne County
WILKES-BARRE, PA – August 30, 2011 –Cork Bar & Restaurant, located at 463 Madison Street in Wilkes-Barre, presented a check for $2,300.00 to the SPCA of Luzerne County this week. The check represented a percentage of the restaurant sales for the week-long “Dog Days of Summer Fundraiser” held at the restaurant earlier this month. As part of the annual fundraiser, customers were encouraged to bring their pooches to dinner on the outdoor patio. Pet-themed drinks and other specials were available, as well as a special menu just for pets!

Cork Bar & Restaurant To Host Dog Days of Summer Fundraiser for SPCA
WILKES-BARRE, PA – July 11, 2011 –Cork Bar & Restaurant, located at 463 Madison Street in Wilkes-Barre, will host its annual weeklong “Dog Days of Summer Fundraiser to benefit the SPCA of Luzerne County from August 2 through August 6. Cork will donate 20% of the week’s sales to the SPCA, in addition to holding a prize raffle, which will also benefit the shelter. During this popular fundraiser, customers are encouraged to bring their pooches to dinner on the outdoor patio. Pet-themed drinks and other specials will be available, as well as a special menu just for pets!

The week will kick off with a “Tails at Twilight” cocktail party featuring complimentary appetizers on the Cork patio on Tuesday, August 2 from 5pm-7pm. During the cocktail party, dogs, cats and other animals from the SPCA will be onsite for adoption. Information will also be available on the SPCA’s Holiday Affair, Tails at Twilight, which will be held on December 10 at The Highlands at Newberry Estate.

Cork will host a Networking Mixer for the Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, July 21.

 

Spring 2011: Cork helped raise funds for the Pittston Care & Concern Ministries at the Annual Junior League Wine & Dine.

Spring 2011: The Cork team raised the most money by a team in the Annual Do it For the Kids Walk-A-Thon to benefit the Wyoming Valley Children’s Association.

Winter 2010-2011: Cork collected food for the Pittston Food Bank throughout the holiday season.

In Fall 2010, Cork supported an array of local organizations, including Leadership Wilkes-Barre and Junior Achievement.

Cork helped to raise more than $5,000 for the Wyoming Valley Children’s Association at the Cork/WVCA Summer Luau in August 2010!

Cork Dog Days of Summer Fundraiser Raised $1,800 for the SPCA of Luzerne County in July 2010!

Cork helped to raise more than $2,000 at our happy hour to benefit C & Y.

Cork joined 12 other area restaurants in support of three local non profit organizations – the CYC, WVCA and MFHS – at the annual Junior League Spring Wine & Dine Event. Over 300 people attended the event, which helped to raise funds for these 3 important organizations.

We were proud to be a sponsor of a recent Leadership Wilkes-Barre event which honored 3 community minded individuals in our area – Ann Marie McCawley of the St. Vincent DePaul Soup Kitchen, Lynn Evans Biga of Luzerne County Head Start and Karen Evans Kaufer of Wyoming Valley Habitat for Humanity. We applaud these ladies on their service to our community.

In 2009, Cork Bar & Restaurant helped raise approximately $10,000 to benefit area charities, including the Wyoming Valley Children’s Association, Children & Youth Services, The Junior League of Wilkes-Barre and the SPCA of Luzerne County among others. We are so pleased to be able to help organizations in the community in which we operate!

Cork to Sponsor WVCA “Do it for the Kids” Walk-A-Thon

Cork Bar & Restaurant will be a sponsor of the WVCA Walk on April 25, 2009. In addition to sponsorship, the restaurant will be having a happy hour to benefit the WVCA leading up to the walk on Wednesday, April 22 and will also be encouraging customers and staff members to join the Cork team in the walk that day. Cork Donates to Ruth’s Place Homeless Shelter

The Junior League of Wilkes-Barre gave each resident at Ruth’s Place, a homeless women’s shelter, a backpack filled with toiletries, hats, scarves and gift cards, and everyday essentials. A holiday party, complete with tree-trimming materials, dessert and soda, was also provided. The dinner was donated by Junior League member Ruth Corcoran’s restaurant Cork.

Cork & Power! Partner to Raise Funds for SPCA

A benefit Happy Hour was held at Cork Bar & Restaurant on Thursday, December 11. The event featured drink specials, complimentary food and a large raffle to benefit the SPCA of Luzerne County.
